Do You Sing Like Sinatra? Join the Dearborn Community Chorus

Here's a list of five things to know about joining the Dearborn Community Chorus.

Do you idolize ol' Blue Eyes? Do you dream of being the next Ella Fitzgerald?

The Dearborn Community Chorus has an open call for area singers. The chorus, directed by Marcus LaPratt, performs around the city, as well as throughout Michigan. The group is on summer break now, but will start again on Sept. 10.

Here are 5 things to know:

1. Rehearsals

Rehearsals are held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays during the concert season and take place in the Henry Ford Community College Choir Room, F-113, MacKenzie Fine Arts Center, 5101 Evergreen Road. To sign up, email DbrnComChorus@comcast.net.

2. Repertoire

The Dearborn Community Chorus performs a variety of choral music including diverse styles from popular show tunes to classical standards. Concerts are built around the idea that both the choir and audience should be inspired, as well as entertained.

3. Concerts

The Dearborn Community Chorus performs two major concerts in the calendar year. The first is scheduled in May and the second in December. In addition, the choir usually performs several community outreach concerts throughout the year. The next concert is the Annual Dearborn Holiday Choral Festival on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center.

4. Who can join?

You have to be at least 16 to join the group. DCC's mission has been to encourage and promote the development of a vital cultural environment within the Dearborn area while providing entertainment for the community. Anyone who likes to sing, or who is willing to learn, is welcome to join the group. No auditions are required. The participation fee is $25.

5. Where can I get more information?

Visit the group's website for up-to-date information and a performance calendar. You can also "like" the DCC on Facebook, or call 313-943-2350.
