First ever “Glow” project offers interactive art experience after dark in Dearborn
Temporary art exhibit Friday, Feb., 3, 7-10 p.m.
The first ever Dearborn “Glow” project will light up an entire city corner in Dearborn on Friday, Feb. 3, from 7 to 10 p.m. when more than 2,000 glow sticks arranged in a pavilion design provide a creative, interactive, but temporary, visual experience for visitors.
The site for the project is on the corner of Michigan Ave. and Brady in west Dearborn adjacent to the Dearborn Historical Museum, a co-host for the project along with the Dearborn Community Fund.
Visitors will be encouraged to walk through the “field” and to move the glow sticks at will resulting in a constantly changing pattern. Three sculptures, part of Dearborn’s Midwest Sculpture Initiative which continues through April, are also featured on the site.
The Dearborn Historical Museum will be open to welcome visitors. A children’s activity area, light refreshments and museum tour will be available.
The idea for the project, described as a “celestial field,” originated with Dearborn resident Paolo Mastrogiacomo, a University of Michigan graduate student in architecture, and his colleague Ariya Kelly.
In addition to providing a unique experience, they see the potential for this type of project to provide the community with an opportunity to stop, play and become engaged while calling attention to the west Dearborn downtown and what it has to offer.
Mastrogiacomo and Kelly along with a group of volunteers including designers, artists and people from the community will install the interactive display.
The project team hopes that this temporary interactive creative project will be the first of many and serve to encourage other area artists to develop future projects.
The event is open to the public at no charge.

More About Dearborn Historical Museum
The Dearborn Historical Museum is operated by the city of Dearborn to help visitors and residents preserve and promote the historical heritage of Dearborn.
The museum features three historic structures: the 1833 Commandant's Quarters, which was once part of the Detroit Arsenal built in Dearbornville in 1833; the 1883 McFadden-Ross House, which was originally the Powder Magazine of the Detroit Arsenal and now houses Historical records and changing exhibits; and the 1832 Gardner house, which gives visitors a glimpse into what life was like in Dearborn back in the 1800s.
The museum hosts private events, lectures and special events by appointment.

The Gardner House tour was nice. The Glow was a bit disappointing. Not what was expected.
