 he proper training. University of Michigan Health Services (UMHS) Interp
 reter Services offers a course &ndash\; Bridging the Gap &ndash\; to tea
 ch aspiring medical interpreters the skills they need to interpret compe
 tently. The University of Michigan Health System is Michigan&rsquo\;s fi
 rst licensed Bridging the Gap provider.\n&nbsp\;\nThis 40 hour course is
  open to current and aspiring medical interpreters and is taught by an a
 uthorized Bridging the Gap trainer. The class teaches interpreting skill
 s\, techniques and ethics\, cultural competency\, professional developme
 nt\, basic medical information and communication skills.\n&nbsp\;\nUpcom
