Apparently the kids were not being cared for by their parents, allowed to wander about on a beachRead Moredu ring a war zone, ignoring leaflets that a bombing was going to happen, responsible parents would be quesitoning Hamas and demanding why there are no peace negotiations in the future.? If Hamas wants to fight, where are their uniforms? Why do they hide in churches and schools? And speaking of precision, Hamas is the most inept group of fighters in the world when it comes to precision missiles, launching thousands and killing no one, our national fireworks 4th of July folk killed more folk with bottle rockets than Hamas did with the real stuff.....

Lee, that would be a good idea but part of the entitlement program in Detroit is giving the peopleRead Morec ellphones so they aren't paying the bill, the state is. Part of the 15 day moratorium is to try to figure out who can pay bills and just won't, and who really have hardships and to put them in contact with organizations that can help them. Right now there are people in leadership roles that want state taxes to be raised to include water for all people and replace individual monthly billings. Right now as it stands, nearly all communities are increasing their water bills to help with the infrastructure, so it appears everyone's options are 1) Pay years of water bill increases, 2) Pay higher state taxes, or 3) temporarily help the people that are hurting now until the politicians and businesses come up with some kind of solution. That's all I know for sure is that now that this matter is being discussed and more people are learning about it, the city and state are not liking the negative public opinion and may try to come up with an answer, especially in an election year.

Joyce, a cell phone is only one item, pick another. If your water bill is not paid, make it soRead Moreit is impossible to get license plates for your car, or a driver's license. The water dept is a govt entity, so is the Secr. of state. Folk are not paying their bill simply because they don't have to, and use the money for something else. Make that choice a little harder to make, or just add the water bill balance to their property taxes, when they don't pay taxes, they really start losing things....

This is why discussion is so necessary, so people can come up with different ideas and hopefulRead Moresolut ions. It does no one any good by just name calling and insulting people like the majority of the posts I've read on the various articles. Like everyone else, I agree there is and has and always will be a certain percent of people who will try not to pay their bills on purpose, but sometimes in life people can experience the loss of the financial head of the family, endure horrible medical expenses, lack the skills to work because of failing school systems, or other problems we can't even begin to imagine because they don't touch our lives. I know there are a lot of organizations and churches that are trying to help the innocent victims, but I do think at times like these, people can also donate their time or a few bottles of water in time of need to help those who can't help themselves.

Another thought, regarding your reference to Hitler and Nazis, It is obvious that the PalestiniansRead Moreh ate the Jews and Israel, the Palestinians even going to extremes by committing atrocities like blowing themselves up and launching thousands of missiles indiscriminately. Hitler and the Nazis also hated the Jews and committed atrocities. That puts the Palestinians and Nazis in the same common pot of hatred against Jews, so , in effect, in the eyes of Israel, the Palestinians are another version of the Nazis. What is there to make the Palestinians, and their actions, in the eyes of the world, what is there to make them any different than Nazis, who shared the same hatred and acted upon it, albeit not in the same scale, but in the same pot, nevertheless.......
Lee Jacobsen July 24, 2014 at 01:56 AM
A correction, pointed out by Joyce, is that it is Hamas, rather than the Palestinian people as aRead Morewho le , who are in the pot, inciting hatred against Israel, on par with Hitler and the Nazis. Without Hamas, and a few miracles, perhaps both sides could live in peace.

Since money , whether dark or light, is spent just about equally on both sides of the politicalRead Morepar ty arena, whether Koch or Soros, the outcome at the polls is a draw....and will not impact the average citizen one way or another. Some of this money is for promoting the public on various proposals on the ballot. For example, Taxing businesses for the same personal property items for generations, the business property tax, is an example of ineptcracy. While individuals only pay property taxes on their real estate, businesses pay a personal property tax on their machinery and equipment in addition to any real property taxes they owe. This means that businesses pay taxes every year on everything from paper clips to boilers. Because this is a tax on things that people use to do their jobs, it’s widely considered to be economically inefficient and damaging to growth. Michigan needs to be competitive against neighboring states that do not have this tax. The revenue will be replaced via a use tax. For 50 years, I have paid a yearly tax on a press that I bought in 1964. Enough is enough..... Vote yes to eliminate an unfair tax.

Distortion by the press and media? How about 3 days of bombing Irsrael with thousands of bombs,Read Moreno t a peep in the press, Irsrael defends itself, the press is all over it, Israel attacks Gaza etc. Crimes against humanity? How many suicide bombers has Israel used against defensless women and children, including Americans and folks from all nations. Try zero. That is the tactic of Palestine terrorists, who are not covered under the Geneva convention since they ignore it and are not civilians. The reality is that the Palestinians don't want peace, they are taught from birth to think a certain way, and it is not peaceful thoughts.....our country is also teaching distortions about our past, but that is another conversation.

Romney is too busy being a 'doer' rather than a 'talker'. I would say that America's corporationsRead Morefo llow the laws and rules dictated by the govt, and if they allow the non payment of taxes, well....that is the govt's doing, not the corporation's fault, they are just following the rules. Right now, with pen and phone, Obama is making the rules, so how about that Obama? Want to change the rules so companies can stay in America? The first change would be to lower the corporate tax rate, from being the highest in the world at 44% to being much lower, like zero for smaller companies, so companies from other countries have a reason to flee to the USA with their jobs, payroll taxes , and skills to save on taxes. Japan's tax is 43%. Think of the savings, and new jobs created. Speaking of fair share of taxes, didn't Romney mention the truth, that 47% of Americans pay no federal income taxes, while 20% of Americans pay 87% of all federal income taxes. All Americans should pay some federal income taxes to keep it 'fair'. Even Russia does that, with a flat tax .
