Dear Fellow Residents,
I feel humbled, honored, and privileged to announce that I intend to seek election to the Dearborn City Council this year. I am committed to my family, friends, and the entire Dearborn community. I am a product of this great city, and I was blessed with all of the benefits that Dearborn offered my family and I.
I am the grandson of immigrants who came to Dearborn to seek opportunity, and a better life for their family. My grandfather found that opportunity working at the Dearborn Ford Rouge complex in the 1940’s, and worked there until his retirement and passing. He left behind a widow, my grandmother, and 5 children. My grandmother struggled and worked hard as a seamstress, raising her 5 children in the city’s south end. Those were tough days, and tough times, but my grandmother, my mother, and my aunts and uncles have all done well because they were a part a great community. They had character, and they are part of the Dearborn story. Dearborn is truly a city that America can be proud of. Dearborn represents the hopes and dreams of so many hard-working Americans who believe that through hard work, dedication, and commitment to our family and our neighbors, we can do great things, and maintain a great community.
Because of our history, and the values that were instilled in me by my family and upbringing, I have developed a deep love for the community that raised me. I appreciate the long and tireless hours that were dedicated by our public school teachers who taught myself and others not only the books, but also the values and character that it takes to be a productive citizen, and the responsibility we all have to contribute to our community.
After graduating from Fordson High School, I was delighted at the opportunity to study at the University of Michigan- Dearborn, a world-class institution in our backyard. This opportunity allowed me to study and earn my Bachelor’s degree close to home. I was able to work with so many in the community on worthy causes, and always felt a sense of social responsibility.
After graduating from the University of Michigan, I studied law full time, at the University of Toledo, worked a few jobs and got married. Needless to say this was a trying 3 years for myself and my new wife Noha, who was also a student (and is currently a PhD candidate at Wayne State University). We rented an apartment for 8 months in Dearborn and then bought a house as soon as we could. There was no question in my mind that Dearborn would always be our home, we didn’t even look anywhere else. Since then, God has blessed us with a beautiful daughter Eman, and excellent career opportunities, all of which were a result of the relationships we have had with so many in our community.
Through my work in Government and the private sector, I have developed an understanding of how our City works, and the role it can play, in collaboration with businesses, to improve the lifestyle of our residents. In addition to taking care of our family and careers, my wife Noha and I have always volunteered our time and effort to many local organizations and causes. Our goal has always been to help improve our hometown for our family and all of Dearborn’s families.
As Dearborn decides which 7 individuals to elect in this year’s City Council race, I will work hard to earn the opportunity to serve my fellow residents. I will humbly submit my credentials to the voters. I will propose clear, defined solutions to our challenges, and identify and support policies and strategies that I believe will produce the greatest value for our tax dollars. This will require us to honor our excellent traditions and the great people of our city while also meeting our challenges with innovative solutions and strategies and seeing them through. My goal will always be to help improve Dearborn in every possible way.
I look forward to continuing a conversation with every interested resident through email, phone, social media, and on our website, all of which are in development. In the mean time, please feel free to contact me with thoughts, questions or suggestions by email at BaydounforDearborn@gmail.com or 313-338-8058.
