Dearborn Symphony Home Tour Set for Saturday

The tour will be held in the Shady Hollow Court estates beginning at 10 a.m. May 18.

The Friends of the Dearborn Symphony will host its 32nd annual Home Tour on Saturday. The tour will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Shady Hollow Court in the Dearborn Country Club Estates and will feature tours of 29 large ranches and two-story renovated, designer-decorated homes. Visitors can stroll through the neighborhood or ride in a courtesy bus that departs regularly from the Dearborn Country Club, which will serve as the tour headquarters. In addition to the tour, guests can enjoy a catered lunch and a jewelry and art sale. There will also be a presentation by Patrizia Makahon and Lynn Jovick, Detroit interior designers. The presentation begins at 9:30 a.m. at the country club. A $10 fee includes coffee and pastries. All …

Marvel’s 'Iron Man 3' Opens May 2 at The Henry Ford IMAX Theatre

Dearborn Symphony Orchestra Wraps Up 2013 Season on May 3

The orchestra will perform a selection of pieces by Beethoven, Holst, and Brahms at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center.

The Dearborn Symphony Orchestra is gearing up for its final concert of the 2013 season. The concert will take place at 8 p.m. May 3 at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, and features the music of Ludwig van Beethoven's "Symphony No. 1," as well as Gustav Holst's “Jupiter” from “The Planets.” Other performances include the introduction and Movements 1 and 2 from Max Bruch's "Scottish Fantasy"; Johannes Brahm's "Piano Concerto in D Minor"; and Jean Sibelius' "Finlandia." This concert will feature violinist Anna Mieczkowski and pianist Heather Shen, the winners of the symphony's Youth Artists Solo Competition. Sondheim’s ‘A Little Night Music’ Opens at Players Guild of Dearborn

Director Harold Jurkiewicz brings the award-winning and critically acclaimed musical to life on stage.

The Players Guild of Dearborn's production of Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning musical A Little Night Music opened to rave reviews for its four-weekend run on Friday. Inspired by Ingmar Bergman's film, Smiles Of A Summer Night, the story takes place in a weekend country house in turn-of-the-century Sweden. The party consists of middle-aged lawyer Fredrik Egerman (Thomas Murphy), his teenage trophy wife Anne, his son Henrik, the intriguing and beautiful actress Desirée Armfeldt, her mother Mme Armfeldt, the ferociously jealous Count Carl-Magnus and his long-suffering wife Charlotte. Dearborn Symphony Orchestra Launches New Social Group for Young Professionals

College students and young families can network at "afterglow" events following orchestra concerts.

The Dearborn Symphony Orchestra is hoping to attract a younger audience to its concerts beginning this year with the launch of "Forte," a social networking group for college students and professionals. "We want to bring in a younger crowd to see and become involved with the symphony," organizer Jessica Matthews of Dearborn said. Members of Forte can enjoy special afterglow events such as a beer tasting or swing dancing class, while meeting other professionals after attending the orchestra's concerts. "Our focus is on college students, young professionals, recent graduates, and young families ages 21 through 49," Matthews said. Youth in Arts Festival Shines Spotlight on Dearborn Student Artists

More than 400 students from Dearborn Public Schools and Henry Ford Community College will showcase their work on Wednesday.

The 2013 Youth in Arts Festival will take place on Wednesday, April 24 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center. The festival features visual, instrumental, choral and theatrical offerings from more than 400 students from Dearborn Public Schools and Henry Ford Community College. The event is free and open to the public to attend. Festival activities begin at 4 p.m. with the opening of Dearborn Public Schools' citywide art show at the center’s Padzieski Gallery. The exhibit, which remains in the gallery through May 27, includes selected works from K-12 students. Opening remarks occur at 4:10 p.m. in the Michael A. New Henry Ford Art Exhibit Opens at Dearborn Public Library

An opening reception will take place on Thursday in the Rotunda Lobby at Henry Ford Centennial Library at 6 p.m.

In honor of Henry Ford's 150th birthday, the Dearborn Public Library, along with the Artist's Society of Dearborn, will unveil a new art exhibit on Thursday. According to society member Dave Gorden, the exhibit will feature more than 50 pieces of artwork designed by artists inspired by the Model T and Ford's Fair Lane Estate. "The exhibit captures the spirit of what Henry Ford stood for," Gorden said. An opening reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Rotunda Lobby at Henry Ford Centennial Library. Russian Pianist Returns to Perform with Dearborn Symphony

Gleb Ivanov will perform Edvard Grieg's"Piano Concerto" on April 12 at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center.

By Sandy Butler The Dearborn Symphony, along with Russian pianist Gleb Ivanov, will perform Edvard Grieg's powerful Piano Concerto during a special concert at 8 p.m. on April 12 at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. This is the third time Ivanov will perform with the symphony, conducted by Kypros Markou. Ivanov has been hailed by the New York Times as “a young super-virtuoso with musical sensitivity and an appreciation of style to go with the thunder and lightning.” An attention-grabbing "boom" opens the concert with dramatic chords from Franz von Suppé’s sparkling "Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna Overture," composed in 1844. Two Dearborn Artists Represent City at 2013 Art X Detroit: Kresge Arts Experience

The Dearborn residents are among 38 Kresge Artist Fellows debuting new works and performances April 10-14.

Two artists will represent the Dearborn community in the 2013 Art X Detroit: Kresge Arts Experience, held April 10-14 in Detroit's Midtown district. Ken Meisel of Dearborn and Bruce Giffin of Dearborn Heights will participate in the event. Arab-American Artists Featured at Weekend Forum in Dearborn

"DIWAN5: A Forum for the Arts," will take place Friday and Saturday at the Arab American National Museum.

Artists, activists and scholars from across the United States will converge on the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn this weekend for the annual DIWAN conference. Panelists will speak about their recent work, the challenges of being an Arab-American after 9/11, and how the terrorist attacks on the country has affected their work. Other topics will include how to better mainstream Arabic culture and how to combat anti-Arab prejudice with art, according to museum spokeswoman Kim Silarski. Some of the big names in attendance this year include Tony Award-winning actress Suheir Hammad, and Susan Abulhawa, the international best-selling author of "Mornings in Jenin."
