What Should Open in Place of Dearborn's Snow Branch Library?
The third branch of the Dearborn Public Library is on the market for $590,000.

The Snow Branch of the Dearborn Public Library, which closed last September amidst a series of city budget cuts, is on the market.
The building, located on Princeton and Telegraph Road in southwest Dearborn, was listed in the Aug. 5 edition of the Dearborn Press and Guide for $590,000.
Profit from the sale would go back into the city's general budget–not to the library fund–because the building itself is a city-owned asset.
According to the Press and Guide, the bidding deadline on the property is Aug. 29.
With 12,000 square feet of space, Telegraph Road frontage and a free parking lot, the possibilities are numerous.
Public opinion has maintained that they hate to see the library go–and some had even hoped to see it reopened after the city stabilized its budget.
But with no option except to look forward, Patch want to know: What would you like to see open there?

The city voted to raise taxes to support libraries and this mayor repays the favor by selling the busiest branch library. It's a shame Dearborn voters continue to accept failed leadership from this mayor. This mayor will sell this library for pennies on the dollar just like Dearborn Towers but build himself a new city hall. Of we don't have money to provide services to residents we don't have money to provide services to our politicians. What makes John Oreilly so special

A used book store would be a great fit for a former library. A more realistic price is around $390,000, including the existing books. It should include a coffee and/or bagel shop, with scones and other pastries, as used books may not generate enough cash flow alone to keep the doors open. Perhaps used I-pads could compliment the used books.

A used bookstore with a cafe and sitting areas is a fantastic idea! Since Border's closed there is no place like that in the area. We end up going to Ann Arbor now...

I don't think there are any hookah lounges nearby. So...I vote for hookah lounge/cigar bar. Or topless bar. Those places are always busy. The only thing busier than a topless bar is a gay bar. So, I guess I vote for topless gay bar with hookah smoking in the VIP lounge.

Sarah, that is a great used bookstore, my favorite, and they are out of room!! They need to expand, and what better place than the former Snow Library. With some partners that know the food aspect, and a little bit of 'Crackerbarrel' tossed in, it could be a winner.
