Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

What Are You Reading? Tell Us About It for a Chance to Win a Kindle!

We're assembling a list of summer book recommendations and rewarding one Patch reader with a Kindle just for helping.

What are you reading right now?

What did your kiddos finish reading last night?

Summer is in full swing, and so is the popular summer reading program at the Dearborn Public Library (check out the full guide on Patch).

And at Patch, we're continuing to build our 2012 Summer Reading Guide–and looking for readers to help. Post a comment with your reading recommendation; one commenter will be chosen at random on Friday, July 20, to win a new Kindle e-Reader.

And, speaking of reading recommendations, Patch has put together (with the help of bestselling author James Patterson) a list of age-specific titles that you should check out.

If you like any of these, or have other well-loved books to share, tell us all about it. Post a comment with your book recommendation (for kids or adults) by noon Friday, July 20, to enter.

A Patch editor will pick a winner at random; that winner will be contacted Friday afternoon and will have until noon Monday to respond in order to claim the prize. The Kindle we're giving away is the 6-inch version shown here.

The contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 and older. And this wouldn't be a contest without a complete list of official contest rules.

What have you read this summer?

"The Hobbit" by JRR Tolkein. It is a classic and a nice read while sitting by Dunworth Pool while my kids are taking swimming lessons. I am also reading Ray Bradbury's Farenheit 451. I guess I am lost in the oldies.

My 9 year old daughter is reading the Harry Potter books, and also her favorite "Magic Tree House" books.

I'm reading "Van Gogh: The Life" by Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith. At 800 pages it's a heck of a read - I've started in November and I'm almost done. It's a fantastic and thorough bio that takes you inside Vincents head.

I just finished "American Salvage" by Bonnie Jo Campbell. It's a collection of gritty, dark short stories set in rural Michigan, where people know how to survive but have no clue as to how to prosper . It is part of the Made in Michigan Writer Series and was a finalist for the National Book Award in Fiction. I highly recommend it.

I'm currently re-reading "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac, but my recommendation for a great read is "Zeitoun" by Dave Eggers. "Zeitoun" is the story of a Syrian-American who chose to ride out Hurricane Katrina at home rather than head north with his wife and children. In the aftermath of the hurricane, he is arrested without explanation, and a majority of the book focuses on his struggle for justice and trying to clear his name. It's a really well-written book, and it'll really make you think about how the U.S. handled the situation in New Orleans.

I recently finished "A Wrinkle in Time" and am currently in the middle of two hard cover books: "Faery Tale" by Signe Pike and "The Last Enchantment" by Mary Stuart. When I'm not reading a regular book, I'm knitting/crocheting and using various books for pattern and how-to references. On the list for in the car, I have "The Broker" by John Grisham on CD (waiting for the car ride to take our daughter to college and trip Up North).

My 17-year-old Daughter just finished "The Book Thief" and "I Am the Messenger" by Markus Zusak. She said both were excellent. She's currently re-reading "A Million Little Pieces" and the sequel "My Friend Leonard" by James Frey. She said she's #106 on the waiting list for "50 Shades of Grey" by E. L. James (she says with such a long waiting list, it must be excellent).
