Watch for Road Closures Due to Rally Saturday in Dearborn

Drivers are advised to avoid the area of Warren Avenue and Schaefer Road.

A planned march and rally will cause delays and road closures Saturday afternoon in east Dearborn.

The Karbalaa Islamic Education Center will be hosting their annual Ashura Commemoration March and Rally. The event will include a march down Warren Avenue and Schaefer Road, ending with a rally in Hemlock Park. The march will begin at the center, which is located at 15322 W. Warren Ave. From there, it will move east to Schaefer, then south to the park.

As such, Warren Avenue between Greenfield and Schaefer, as well as Schaefer between Warren and Ford, will experience intermittent lane closures. The intersection of Warren and Schaefer will also be closed for several minutes, according to police.

Dearborn police advise drivers to avoid the area from 1-4 p.m.

People have every right to assemble. These ostentatious religious displays and marches, however, really need to be toned down. Religion is a personal matter that should be confined to the home and temple/church. East Dearborn is beginning to resemble Sadr City.

Sadr City? Maybe so...what with City Hall bailing out of East Dearborn. How long before the parking nightmare called West Dearborn abandons the east entirely?
