Veterans Invited on Free River Cruise on 9/11
Tuesday's boat trip, in honor of Patriot Day, will depart from Wyandotte's Bishop Park at 7 p.m.
Veterans are invited to a free boat ride up and down the Detroit River on Tuesday to mark Patriot Day.
The event is being sponsored by Friends of Cynthia Kallgren. Kallgren, a Republican, is running against longtime U.S. Rep. John Dingell (D-Dearborn) in the Nov. 6 election.
"Cynthia Kallgren's father served in the Army," her campaign said in a press release. "In his memory and in thanks to all of the men and women who protect our freedoms day in and day out, she is inviting veterans to join her for free on the Diamond Jack River Boat setting sail from (Wyandotte's) Bishop Park."
Boarding begins at 6:45 p.m., with a 7 p.m. departure. Free parking is available at the foot of Oak Street near the park. Beverages and light refreshments will be available for purchase during the two-hour cruise.
Veterans must pre-register and bring proper ID (proof of membership in a veteran's organization or military papers) when boarding the boat.
Non-veterans also may attend. Tickets are $25 each.
