A new discount grocery store is coming to Dearborn—and they're hiring.
ValuLand, a subsidiary of Spartan Foods, is planned to open soon in the Newman Street strip mall, between Dearborn Music and Family Dollar.
Spartan Foods is a distributor that also operates several other store chains, as well as supplies to local grocers. ValuLand is the company's newest acquisition, with stores in Warren, Leslie, Roseville, Marion, Lansing and Clare.
The Dearborn store was originally set to open in the fall of 2012, but is still under construction.

Spartan Foods is a Michigan based store and they strive to carry nothing but Michigan grown products. That's good for both our city and our state.

Although I may agree Hillars, Trader Joe's or even Whole Foods would be a good choice. I am glad to see business coming back to Dearborn. We can't have our cake and eat it too. I know the west enders love that cake! ;-)

If you think there is a market in Dearborn for higher end business, why don't you invest in one yourself? The wasteland that is downtown West Dearborn is the consequence of Guido's delusion that Dearborn , an old ring suburb, could support such places. I agree with Youssef and am glad this is not another bar, drug testing clinic or cell phone store.

We all know Dearborn could support a Hiller's, Trader Joe, or Whole Foods. We have supported Westborn Mkt. for years. However these regional and national companies look only at traditional economic and market demographics. The raw numbers do not add up to them. Why the numbers do not add up is open to debate.

Ok, I agree that Hillar's is up scale, but Trader Joe's isn't. It would just be a nice change of pace to be able to shop in a more trendy, affordable, and healthy type of establishment. I hope that ValuLand does well in Dearborn. I too agree that it is good to have a new business in Dearborn rather than a vacant building. We shall see.

Yes, I have been to Trader Joe's within the last few weeks. I still really like shopping there. Their prices weren't bad at all. I don't do my full grocery shopping there, but I do enjoy many of their products.
Btw Youssef, just an Fyi, I grew up in the Southend. I think that no matter where you live in Dearborn, sometimes.......you need to eat a little cake. :)
