Prosecutor: Dearborn Man Who Shot Fiancee Acted in Self-Defense

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office on Monday denied a warrant request for the man, who killed his fiancee in their home Aug. 12.

A Dearborn man will walk free after in their home Aug. 12, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office ruled Monday.

The man, whose name has not been released, was determined to have acted in self-defense when he shot 26-year-old Ebony Gaines, the county prosecutor's office announced in a statement.

"After an investigation and review of the facts and evidence, it has been determined that the shooting was in lawful self-defense and the warrant has been denied," the office wrote.

No more details have been released as to why the shooting was considered self-defense, although Dearborn police reported Friday that the incident arose from a domestic dispute.

The Friday afternoon murder shook the neighborhood of west Dearborn it occurred in. The home, located on the 1600 block of Highview Street, is located just blocks from and schools, , as well as .

"It's scary when it's so close!" commented Dearborn resident Tracy Besek on the Dearborn Patch Facebook page. "My kids were outside playing when that happened."
