Photo Contest, Week 2: Show Us Your Patch of Michigan and Win!
Show off your finest photos, from Up North to your own backyard. We'll award weekly prizes for the photos that say "Michigan" in content, tone and spirit.
Michiganians have a love affair with their state. From Up North to their own backyards, Michigan has an allure that cannot be denied.
Why not share your visions of Michigan in photos in our Your Patch of Michigan photo contest, and possibly win a prize for doing so?
For the next seven weeks, we'll pick a winner every week based on voting by a panel of Michigan Patch editors. Each weekly winner will get a prize.
For the week of July 31-Aug. 6, the prize is a $25 gift card to Stucchi's in Dearborn.
After Sept. 17, we'll pick a grand prize winner from all of the weekly winners.
The grand prize winner will receive a certificate for a two-night stay at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island (to be used before Oct. 31, 2012, and blackout dates and other restrictions may apply). The approximate retail value of the Grand Prize is $500.
Do you need to be Ansel Adams to win this? No. The single qualification for photos you send is that they say "Michigan" to you. If it oozes "Michigan," it qualifies.
Here's how you can enter: We have a few photos here to start things out. To add your own images, first become a registered Patch user if you aren't already, then add to the gallery on this page.
Each week, we'll have a new gallery and a new winner.
Be sure to include your real, full name and the place where the photo was taken, as well as any other relevant information about what they photo shows. The email address you use to register must be a working one so we can reach you should we have questions — or should you be selected as a winner.
All photos must be posted each Saturday by midnight to be judged for that week; the first week's photos are being judged now and will be announced this week; the second week's photos will be judged from today through Aug. 6.
The contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 and older. And this wouldn't be a contest without a complete list of official contest rules; you can read them here. Please, no more than three (3) entries per person per week. The winner will be selected each Monday, and must respond to notification within 48 hours.
If you aren't quite sure how to upload a photos, check out our step-by-step guide to uploading photos to Patch. If you still have trouble or have questions, email Associate Regional Editor Beth Valone at beth.valone@patch.com.

I'd like to express admiration for what the Japanese refer to Haikyo.
It draws International tourism where found and Detroit is our Queen.
Any photography of what we live with day-to-day earns my support.

Do not GOOGLE this highway,(decided to leave name off) Does any one have pictires of (I removed). I have not seen any Pictures, can not find my on all my Out Drives. This Road starts at the State Police post in Bayview, (Potoskey) North to Nubs and Highlands ski,North thru Harbor Springs, then Look Out, Hang on to your what ever you call it, it is breathless, lets see if some one has been there, hint, most take the Ribbon of Concrete, and don't know what they are missing. It is a day trip for any one vacationing in the Northern part of ......... say Traverse City, up ward, or top part of the Eastern (sunrise side). I will answer in a day or so, and then give you a web site, that is awsome, It is a very famous drive, not hear about much in our area, a U S A resident has made it his Goal to do Famous Drives and Tape them, this was one of them. Locals keep it quiet.......... have you been there? Patch keep quiet.

Are the photos held over week to week or do they need to be resubmitted? Thanks!

Excellent Question, Janet,.or Have a Patch Day Stamp, so one could look at them by the day, instead of going thru all of them every time. There are some nice ones, Like the boarded up old House or cottage, Imagine the stories that place could tell. There are others also, but like art, it is in the eyes of the beholder, not so much in the emotion of the moment, for those involved.

We start the contest anew each Sunday morning, so the contest runs Sunday-Saturday each week through Sept. 17. We encourage people who submit photos to share some information about the picture (where it was taken, in particular). Entries are limited to 3 photos per week per user.

Janette: I guess you and I didn't win, since we were answered already. smile. I guess we can resubmitt, But I wonder why does the Picture say, First week submitt? sort of sends a message mto judges that it wasn't good enough to win in week one, or two and so on, If it can be resumitted it should not send any mesage to others. But who am I.? Perhaps I am looking at this backwards, I was under the impression it was about or should show Mich. with Mich.'s beauty as the focus point. nor emotion, we all have our spot in the woods or water, don't we? true beauty frpm the soul to mather natures soul. Beth, I would like to see hear, where the winner was taken, and why the judges as a consenus, pick the picture they did, it would help me to go thru my 4000 pic's half are organized ................ o my

We plan to run a story naming the winner and a bit about the photo and why it was chosen as well as a gallery of the finalists. We got more than 550 photos the first week; it was difficult to choose!

Beth and the group: I can imagine with the 550. I enjoy the different spots. That show Michigan areas. I do Golf shows with my PGA. Son, it is a time for Dad and oldest to have a week end together, in different cities. We have FUN, we do have very low prices, yet some people come in and bring 10 pc's to the register, wnating more off, we say can't do that, they lay the items down and walk away like it is Neimen Marcus, (?) that use to take the fun out of it, but now we play the game with them, we give them 5.00 cash, to leave the booth, it is cheaper for us, (all in fun) they look at us like we are crazy, they get embarras, and leave, we high five, it is all a game. I say this cause of all the questions I have asked, just to understand the rules, it is fun to see or guess what the judges would look for,,,,,,,,, thanks for the fun.

Dennis:you are the only one to bite on the challenge, yes T of T u have to go back and take it in the fall, it is breath taking, go to Tunnel ot Trees, easy to do, from the bridge drop down to Cross Village exit, (great reasturant in the village. not far on I-75, it is along the L Mich shore, or going north, as I said go thru Petoskey, take a left at the State Police sta. go thru Harbour springs, turn right in town, climb the hill and your on your way, It is called Tunnel of Trees, not well known locals would like to keep it that way, but we are all tax payers "I cry foul to them" smile.
Google it, it is also on YOUTUBE, take the ride on the back of a motor cycle, at normal speed or higher, as I also said, some " Full Of Him self" as taken drives on well known drives or roads, Mt Passes, etc. he said this was the longest and required the most nerv, (at the speed) Parents, there is a you tube, that the guy driving is being distracted by a female companion, not disrobing, he also turns around and comes back down the same road. The road is very narrow 2 lane road, with no shoulder............. just plane .. gorgeous........ Dennis, how did you hear about it, or like me did one of those, "your lost aren't you, things" and all of sudden what was a sweaty issue, became a well spent, afternoon, well rewarded, by motrher nature, and ..............

Gee what a great way to revisit places in MIchigan or see them for the first time. It's a free vacation and with the gas prices what they are how can you beat it. We do have a beautiful state and as we can see so many of our Michiganders stay in Michigan for their vacations. What does that tell you? Pure Michigan!
