Moms Can Find Rest, Relaxation at Dearborn Spas

Busy moms may find that some elusive time for themselves–and away from the stress of work and family–may not be that far away.

For today’s busy moms, some well-deserved R & R may seem as remote as a sunny, sandy beach, or as impossible as winning the lottery. In other words, a fantasy that is not feasible in the world of juggling work and family.

But the good news is that some time off–a chance to reinvigorate and reconnect with oneself–does not necessarily mean a big expense, or a big undertaking.

“Every mom deserves some time off, even if it’s only for an hour,” said Cheryle Hopper, the co-owner of The Massage Room on Monroe Street, which has some great options for moms or anyone else who’s looking to make a temporary escape.

“All parents need some room to breathe,” she added. “We tell them not to bring their children ... . They need dome time to wind down. This is especially true for working mothers, who are coping with the pressures of work and the home.”

Lucky for the moms, Dearborn is home to several spas and retreats that make the elusive a reality, and the services for busy moms are rich and varied.

At Om Spa on Michigan Avenue, moms can enjoy a Dutch Chocolate Indulgence Foot Treatment and Pedicure. This treatment consists of a chocolate moisture syrup that is massaged into weary feet, followed by a gentle sugar scrub. The service costs $65.

Facials designed to refresh even the most world-weary mother can be found at European Tanning Club & Hair Design on Warren Road, starting at $40.

At Silvia’s on Monroe Salon and Spa, a session for Reflexology–or the act of applying pressure to certain areas of the hand or foot using specific methods to release tension–can be booked for either 30 or 60 minutes, for $50 or $75, respectively.

At The Massage Room, one option is a couple’s massage, so that a mom can reconnect with the man in her life. At $150 per couple, the massage is well worth the opportunity to be pampered, said Hopper.

“We always give the clients time to be alone to relax before the massage,” she said. “We have cheese tray and some sparkling grape juice. It’s a great opportunity to unwind.”
