Inebriated Man Refuses to Pay Bill, Arrested at Dearborn Restaurant

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Dearborn police arrested a man Saturday at T.G.I. Friday's for disorderly conduct and attempting to skip out on his bill, according to department reports.

Police were called to the restaurant at 720 Town Center Drive just after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday based on reports that a customer was refusing to pay his $114 bill.

The man, a Taylor resident, told police that he didn't intend to pay his bill and wasn't going to leave. The man, police said, was visibly intoxicated and began shouting in the crowded restaurant, making a scene.

Officers informed the man that if he didn't pay his bill and exit calmly, he was going to be arrested. The man refused, and resisted arrest until officers pinned him against a table and cuffed him.

The man was taken in and charged with defrauding an innkeeper, disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer.

According to the Dearborn police report, an officer paid the outstanding bill with cash from the man's wallet.

Dearborn's Finest come to the rescue, as the always do. The best part of the article was where a police officer took the money from the man's wallet and paid the bill. Just loved that quick thinking. :)

the cop did the man a favor by paying the bill, otherwise he would've charged with theft.

Liquor and common sense certainly don't mix.

The drunk had the 'means' but not the sense to open his wallet.

Look out, he may sue the cop for theft.

so how is the guy being charged with defrauding the inn keeper when the cop took the money out of them nas wallet and paid the tab??? besides that the cop has no business going into the guys wallet in the first place without a search warrant. if he gets a good attorney you never know what could happen.....

That's a good point, Andrew. I don't know what the official charges ended up being before the district court - they may have thrown that out.
