Help Us Write a Visitor's Guide to Dearborn

We love day trips, and we think the Dearborn area would be a great day trip destination. Help us write a guide to share with other Patch sites in Michigan.

Quick: a long-lost friend is coming to the Dearborn area and has asked you for some things-to-do and places-to-eat-and-shop suggestions.

What do you tell him?

We're writing a daytrip guide to Dearborn for a summer series called Patch Passport. The other Patch sites in Michigan — from New Baltimore to Saline and two dozen in between — are doing the same.

Starting next weekend, we'll offer up a weekly daytrip guide to another southeast Michigan town for you to visit. Bet you didn't know, for instance, about all of the unique, locally owned shops in St. Clair Shores? (The Whistle Stop Hobby Shop, for instance, is a locally owned toy store with an elevated train track that runs, nonstop, the inside perimeter of the store.)

There are more gems to be discovered, too.

But to start, we need to write our own daytrip guide to share with the other Patch sites.

So, it's time to share your must-list in Dearborn: Where would you take a visitor to our towns? Tell us in the comments below.

Start the day by going to Italia Bakery for Coffee Cake, and pastries, Maravillioso! Proceed to The Henry Ford for a historical visit. Picnic sound good with sandwiches and other treats from Monroe Bakery, at the grounds of U of M. For more culture, visit the Arab Historical Museum, and to top it off, (of course) dinner at any of the finest Arab Restaurants, you decide!

What interests does this 'friend' have? When will he drop by? If he is into history, the 'no brainer' is The Henry Ford complex including Greenfield Village. While there, if he is into manufacturing processes, take the Ford Rouge tour and watch the fabrication of a pickup truck. Dearborn has a large middle Eastern population, enjoy some of the food on Warren ave, and , if there is still time, visit the Dearborn Ice Skating Center (DISC) and watch the world champion Synchroteam Crystallettes do some practicehttp://www.pressandguide.com/articles/2010/02/28/news/doc4b882bc1da9b8652397328.txt

Of course, when this 'friend ' pays a visit to Dearborn is important, as there are many activities to enjoy such as the Dearborn Homecoming, and of course, the nation's longest running and most famous car festival, the 'Old Car Festival' at Greenfield Village the first week in Sept. http://www.thehenryford.org/events/oldCarFestival.aspx

Other than Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum and maybe the Fairlane Estate, there really aren't any "must sees" in Dearborn. It's a typical inner ring suburb of Detroit. Since we're so close to Detroit, your out of town friend would be better off spending two days at the Village and Museum and the rest of the time in Detroit. Why you'd take him to the Ford Performing Arts Center when you're a few minutes away from Orchestra Hall, Music Hall, The Fox, The Fisher....etc...is beyond me. For the same price you'd pay to see a third rate act locally, you could see a national act downtown.

There's also the Padzieski Art Gallery - Ford Community & Performing Arts Center.

And much, much more that I neglected to mention! And even more that I don't know about yet!

Thanks for attempting to put together a visitor's guide. I look forward to seeing it published. Good luck!

WOW! Thanks for so many suggestions! We look forward to promoting this throughout southeast Michigan, to get more people to visit Dearborn (and maybe not JUST The Henry Ford?)...

Roedegher's on Telegraph sells used books. Green Brain has graphic novels - not just comics. Personally, I still miss Little Professor!
