Goodwill to Host Donation Drive Saturday for Dearborn Store

The Dearborn Goodwill store is set to open Sept. 8.

Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit's Dearborn retail store is all set to open Sept. 8. Now, they just need help stocking the shelves.

The nonprofit will host a donation drive from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18. The drive will be held in the parking lot in front of the soon-to-open store between Newman Street and Michigan Avenue. The official address is 22451 Michigan Ave.

Goods accepted will include clothing, appliances, toys, kitchen items and electonics. All items must be new or gently used, with no rips, tears, or stains. All items, including furniture, must be dropped off at the donation drive.

For a full list of accepted items, see the PDF attached to this post.

Goodwill of Greater Detroit Public Relations Director Mark Lane said that the company is greatful to see donations continue to rise, but could always use more. Also, the Dearborn donation drive provides a chance for local residents to give to the store in their own neighborhood, as well as to get acquainted with Goodwill's mission and services.

Remember that this discount store located in our neighborhood because of the quality of donations expected, rather than being located near the most needy patrons. I will continue to take my donations elsewhere to other discount stores, which are located in areas most likely patronized by those who really need my used items.

Sadly this discount store counts as new development, and joins such other discount retailers in the Michigan Avenue strip like Family Dollar, the Dollar Store, Dots, Rainbow, Payless, and Marshalls.

There are a lot of people in this neighborhood that will benefit from the donations of their neighbors!
