Dearborn Woman to Run for Congress in 12th District
Karen Jacobsen hopes to unseat Democrat John Dingell, who is the longest running member of Congress.
A Dearborn woman on Thursday announced her candidacy for U.S. Congress in Michigan's 12th District.
Karen Jacobsen, a businesswoman who lives in Dearborn with her husband and daughter, is running in the Republican congressional primary in August for the House of Representatives.
Jacobsen announced her candidacy from her home in Dearborn Thursday afternoon.
According to her official website, Jacobsen describes herself as "a regular American who wants to unwind, reduce and simplify our federal government in Washington, DC."
"It’s time to throw off the heavy weight of government so we can be free, productive and prosperous," she adds.
U.S. Rep. John Dingell, who is running in the Democratic primary for the same seat, also announced his candidacy this week. In the House of Representatives since 1955, Dingell is the longest currently serving member of Congress, and is the third longest-serving member ever.
According to the Detroit News, Dingell will face off against University of Michigan doctoral student Daniel Marcin of Ann Arbor in the primary.
Dingell currently serves in the 15th District, which was changed in the redistricting process.
The 12th District covers Ann Arbor, Ann Arbor Township, Pittsfield Township (part), Scio Township (part), Superior Township, Ypsilanti, Ypsilanti Township, Allen Park, Belleville, Brownstown Township, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights (part), Flat Rock, Gibraltar, Grosse Ile Township, Huron Township, Lincoln Park, Riverview, Rockwood, Southgate, Sumpter Township, Taylor, Trenton, Van Buren Township, Woodhaven and Wyandotte.

I looked at her website and am intrigued. I don't see her stance on the issues she's running on and look forward to hearing what she has to say. Daniel Marcin, the man runnging against Dingell for the primary has his position on the issues on his website.
Regardless of who wins the election, I feel that the person who best represents our district, should not have the term "Longest Serving Member of Congress" after his name. I think we need fresh blood and both of these candidates look like they can bring fresh opinions and the actual voice of the people to Washington. Lets just hope that they don't become compromised by the wings of their parties and become part of the problem.

I too have read her site and I'm also intrigued. I urge people to research all candidates throughly and make an informed decision based on critical and analytical thinking.
