Dearborn Sports Schedule: Feb. 27-March 4

Two Divine Child sports head to states, while girls basketball teams face off during districts.

It's a big week in sports for .

This weekend, players from three of their teams are heading to state finals in their respective sports: individual girls bowlers, individual boys bowlers and the team, as well as the competitive cheer squad.

Bowling Them Over

Both the girls and boys bowling teams from Divine Child headed to regionals in Canton on Feb. 24, and the results were good.

The boys team took second place overall, with a total score of 4019–less than 50 points behind Ferndale High.

Individual boys bowlers also fared well, with seniors Alex Muszynski and Monty Wonnacott qualifying for state individual finals.

Though the girls bowling team for DC came in fourth overall in regionals, just missing the cutoff for states, seniors Kara Lang and Tina Ripley did qualify as individuals. Ripley took the top spot overall in the tournament with a six-game total of 1229.

Finals take place this Friday and Saturday at Century Lanes in Waterford.

Cheer Heads Back to States

Falcons cheerleaders will be hyperfocused this week on one goal: taking states. The girls , but came in second to Gibraltar Carlson.

Similarly, in Feb. 25 regionals at Carlson, the home team took the top spot with a score of 803.9816. With Allen Park in second, DC took third in the tournament–still enough to qualify them for states.

The girls head to the division two cheer state championships at the Grand Rapids Deltaplex Arena this weekend, competing on Saturday, March 3. They'll take on some familiar foes, and some new opponents: Allen Park, Byron Center, DeWitt, Carlson, Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg and Ortonville Brandon.

Girls Basketball Postseason Starts

It's districts this week for , DC, and girls basketball teams.

At DHS on Monday, the Tractors take on Lincoln Park while the Pioneers face off against Crestwood. The winners will take on Edsel Ford and Allen Park on Wednesday, respectively, while the two teams coming out on top will hit the court Friday for district finals.

The Class B Falcons will play Melvindale on Monday, with the winner taking on Allen Park Cabrini on Wednesday before district finals on Friday.

Both DC and Edsel are the favorites in their respective classes; both boasting near-perfect seasons.

Wednesday, Feb. 29

  • Edsel girls basketball vs. Lincoln Park or Fordson at MHSAA districts, 6 p.m.
  • Allen Park vs. Dearborn or Crestwood at MHSAA districts, 7:30 p.m.
  • Hockey pre-regional finals at the DISC, 7:30 p.m.
  • Divine Child hockey pre-regional finals at Redford Ice Arena, 8 p.m.

Thursday, March 1

  • Fordson boys basketball vs. Livonia Stevenson, 7 p.m
  • Dearborn High wrestling at MHSAA individual state finals, 9 a.m.
  • Dearborn High boys basketball vs. John F. Kennedy, 7 p.m.
