Dearborn Moviegoers Scared by Man's Disturbance During Batman Movie

A man clad only in underwear disrupted a showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" Saturday at Dearborn's AMC Theater.

In the wake of the movie theater shooting in Aurora, CO, earlier this month, a strange incident this week at the AMC Star Theater in Dearborn left some moviegoers scared.

According to Dearborn police reports, patrons of the theater were watching The Dark Knight Rises around 3:20 p.m. Saturday when a man stood up in front of the screen and, wearing only a pair of grey boxer briefs, began yelling out “This movie sucks!” repeatedly.

The man then ran out of the theater without further incident and was not apprehended. However, it was enough to terrify several people in the theater–several of whom ran out in fear, and one of whom called Dearborn police to the scene.

One witness told police that given the shooting in Colorado–which took place July 20 during a midnight showing of the same film and left 12 people dead–she and her husband ran out of the theater in fear that the incident was a copycat.

None of the witnesses were able to give police a detailed description of the man other than what he was wearing–or not wearing—and the fact that he was light-skinned.

AMC Theaters released a statement last week saying that while they were “deeply saddened” by the shooting and resulting deaths in Colorado, they had no plans to change their schedule of showings of the film.

“At this time, our show schedules circuit-wide will not change,” the company said in a statement released July 21. “We will not allow any guests into our theatres in costumes that make other guests feel uncomfortable and we will not permit face-covering masks or fake weapons inside our buildings.”

Additionally, AMC said that it would be “reinforcing” its security procedures throughout all its more than 500 theaters nationwide.

“Being a safe place in the community for all our guests is a top priority at AMC and we take that responsibility very seriously,” the company added.

I know that I would not be able to enjoy the rest of the movie without thinking about the man who left. I would probably leave too.

Yet another reason I refuse to go to the AMC theater at Fairlane. Too many annoying kids, that think theyre funny when they disturb everyone else trying to enjoy their over priced movie experience.

Can you imagine if they got the signs wrong and people bought tickets to Batman thinking that they were going to see Rocky Horror? My God, they'd probably call out the National Guard!

This might have been funny except on the heels of a horrible massacre, the poor people in the theater were probably scared s---less. What an idiot.
