Dearborn Man Killed in Semi-Truck Accident in Warren

Michigan State Police are investigating the cause of an early morning accident between a Saturn and a semi-truck on I-696.

A 50-year-old Dearborn man died Thursday after he lost control of his car on Interstate 696 in Warren and crashed into a semi-truck, police said.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the man was traveling eastbound in a 1997 two-door Saturn on I-696 at Mound Road at about 5:30 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle hit a concrete retaining wall, bounced back into traffic and was hit by the truck. The driver of the truck was not injured, police said.

A press release issued by the Michigan State Police states that the accident may have been caused by a lack of tire tread on the vehicle's rear tires, causing the car to hydroplane on the wet roads.

Seatbelt use and alcohol were not factors in the crash, according to the MSP.
