I too have been in the home. The previous resident was an elderly woman who lived there alone with no relatives in the area. When she became ill her family came from out of state to take care of her in their home. Unfortunately the home was neglected in her declining years and all of her very old belongings are still inside. It has a very old "gravity" furnace and I believe there is a crack in the foundation in the basement

Many times the "vultures" descend on these things, snatch them up for very little cost and promptly put and ad in the paper that says something like… "Great little home…Own it and move in with no money down and $400 a month.” They resell it to some very low income buyer on a land contract and with no city inspections. It is never brought up to code and when the buyer defaults on the land contract, the seller gets it back and does the same thing over and over and continues to decline until the city has to go through the hoops on having it demolished. There are too m any loop hopes for this to happen, and it’s being done in a lot of communities.

It is illegal to occupy a home in Dearborn without a certificate of occupancy. So if you know of houses here being inhabited under these circumstances please call building and safety. However, this could happen here legally if the home is unoccupied. The city collects a fee so the sale can proceed. The buyer is supposed to bring it up to code before anyone moves in.

Pam, you are 100% correct, BUT, I can tell you with certainty that there are many, many homes sold and occupied in Dearborn that have never received a C of O, nor have the occupants ever submitted a Property Transfer Affidavit with the Assessors Office. The latter is to alert the assessor that someone new owns the house so that the the new tax assessment can be levied.

And, AC, in reply to you...no not capitalists in any sense of the word. Vulture is what I meant and what best describes people who engage in this sort of thing, i.e., feeding off the carcass of depressed Dearborn assets.
