Crime Report: 3 Dearborn Businesses Broken Into on Same Night
The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
A string of break-ins to Dearborn businesses were reported on July 10, according to Dearborn police reports.
Two of the break-ins–committed at neighboring businesses–may be connected.
According to police, officers responded to an alarm going off at Future Drugs on Warren Ave. around 6:20 a.m. and, just minutes later, an alarm next door at Silky's Dry Cleaners.
Police found that in both cases, the front door had been pried open and the dead bolt, broken.
The owner at each business told police that nothing appeared to be missing from their respective store. At Future Drugs, however, signs of disturbance were clear–including a box of Chapstick lip balms and other items found on the floor, as though someone had knocked them down while jumping over the counter.
Then, around 11 a.m. the same morning, the owner of Fordson Cleaners came in to find that someone had apparently broken into his business overnight, although he was unsure as to the time.
The business–which has been undergoing renovations since a fire gutted it in March–was missing copper piping, a water meter, and a back-flow preventor. The front door of the shop was pried open to gain access.
The owner told police that it was one of several thefts from the business he had seen since beginning reconstruction. He asked that the area be given extra patrol attention by Dearborn police, especially during the night.

Regarding the copper pipe being taken, the easy cash payments and obvious lack of curiousity at scrap yards make this kind of theft viable. Time to get the govt involved and at least insist on more ID than is required to vote in IL. for the folk bringing in this so-called scrap metal.

Marium, the Chinese will buy every bit of scrap that we produce, and then undercut USA products in cost as they can fabricate with the scrap without worrying about the environment. In other words, there will always be buyers, we need to slow down the purchase arrangement of the scrap by scrapyards to at least allow the police to check if some obvious stuff, like brand new aluminum ladders , are stolen or should we believe the seller's statement "the boss said I could have these since he is going out of business". Yeah..right!

Omgosh...please! Lee,.. let's come up with a better solution than getting the government involved. Why is it so many want government to handle EVERYTHING! Yikes!

Tammy, it was 'tongue in cheek' of course as the govt is already stealing way more than the scrappers are. The govt provides many services, but only around 25% really are needed that affect most citizens., basic services , defense,SS, medicare, etc. We pay road taxes for our roads on top of the taxes the govt takes out of our pockets. 75% of the Federal budget is questionable , such as the dept of energy for example. Where did all that 'stimulus ' money really go?? We are talking trillions....Reduce govt to the essentials once again, folk in need used to go to charities, etc, now they make more money on welfare than getting a job. At least the job requires a drug test, should we expect no less to accept welfare? If you can afford to buy drugs , you don't need welfare.
