Crime Blotter: Dearborn Bar Robbed at Gunpoint

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A typical night of business ended badly at Bronco's Saloon in Dearborn on Tuesday, according to Dearborn police reports.

Police were called to the bar at 4025 Maple just after 10 p.m. Tuesday for report of an armed robbery that had just occurred.

Employees of the bar told police that three men wearing ski masks–two with handguns, one with a rifle–walked in and told everyone to get on the ground. One man, holding an AK-47, told the bartender to open the safe and Keno drawer and place them on the bar. One of the other men grabbed the money–around $3,000 in cash–and placed it in a blue pillowcase.

One bar patron told police that the suspects also took his wallet, which contained cash and several credit cards.

The men then exited without further incident. Surveillance footage showed the suspects walking away north on Maple Street.

The three suspects are described as a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with "Detroit" written on it and carrying a black automatic handgun; a black male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and carrying a silver automatic handgun; and an unknown male wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and carrying a rifle.

All three were wearing what appeared to be white gardening gloves.

Dearborn police canvassed the area and notified other local departments, but were unable to locate the men.

Nice support Paul. When was the last time you called the DPD and they did not show up within minutes? You know nothing about this case so perhaps you might want to see what you can find out before passing judgement.

Paul, in reply to your comment about our high taxes not keeping us safe I would ask that you consider looking into areas of extreme waste within city government. The first department everyone complains about with regard to taxes is the police department when in fact there is deplorable waste in every other department in city government. If you would like lower taxes with less protection I am quite certain Detroit has some homes for sale. We live in a city surrounded by crime and but for our police, we would not have a chance. I am only suggesting that you back up your indirect accusations with some facts. Respectfully....

Paul, it actually is a "shocker". Dearborn Police have had a VERY GOOD track record with catching and capturing suspects from these types of crimes. For instance recent bank robberies and the murder of that beauty supply store owner not too long ago.

And how about all the recent break ins? I am no detective but how about more patrols in in marked cars through the neighborhoods instead of camping out behind the west end bars.

Kay - Sorry to assume that the high taxes we pay would get us a safer city.

Do Dearborn police really camp out behind the bars? I'm not much of a bar-goer these days, but I've never seen them out there on weekends. Not saying you're wrong - just curious because I don't hear about many DUIs in the city.

Seems like a fair enough request.

They patrol and they go when called. Also, when the bars empty out and there is a fight a night coming out of the Post and Double Olive...and they are drunk people fights..I believe that falls under public safety. The break-ins are happening at dusk not at 2 a.m. I just take issue with statements like the one Paul makes. Common sense would tell you that you alway have more of a police presence where there are larger crowds, especially when drinking is involved. Camped out? I've not seen that.

To those who are complaining about the police, what do you expect them to be able to do? They aren't God. They were called after the gunmen had already left; and thank goodness for that. Can you imagine what would have occurred had the police arrived while they were still there? I'm 100% positive that it would have been a bad, bad, bad situation. Even if they were only a block away when called, how do you expect them to find them? So, three gunmen got away with a few thousand dollars and a wallet and nobody was hurt. I say be thankful for that. Yes, crime in Dearborn is increasing exponentially and that upsets me very much. However, don't blame the police. They are already understaffed and doing the best they can.

I have worked in Detroit for many years and I am very aware of the poor shopping facilities that city has to offer the residents of Detroit. Naturally many Detroiters flock to Dearborn to shop-they don't have to run for miles and miles away to take care of their daily needs. Also take a look at the economy. A lack of jobs and people with time on their hands have an opportunity to come to Dearborn and learn about the community. They have time to plan and make their move. The perps can make an easy 'getaway' via Ford Road, Southfield Freeway, or I-94 to name a few of the many exits. I see that these guys who robbed the bar walked away; who in their right mind was about to chase after armed robbers? I would never dream of blaming our police department, our men in blue have their hands full. In spite of everything going on, Dearborn does offer many pluses for the residents here. Times are tough everywhere and we all need to be aware of our surroundings. I recall wnen we moved here the crime that frequently occured was during the time homeowners were out gardening and would leave their doors unlocked and often open. We would never do that as residents of Detroit and we don't do that as residents of Dearborn. Crime has no boundaries. Take care, Dearborn. Pickles

I caught a lot of grief for a long ago posted comment "Come back Orville Hubbard, we need you...". You folks can live in your Dearborn fantasy land of touchy, feely, lets all get along ideals, but anyone with a brain can see that it doesn't always work. This city was better off years ago when we had strong, unpolitically correct leadership, and our parks were closed to non - residents. They stayed in Detroit. Over the years they trashed their neighborhoods, as well as their shopping areas, like at Greenfield & Grand River. Now they leave their litter in the parking lot at Target at Ford & Greenfield. While y'all can sing kumbaya 'till the cows come home, I'll continue to carry my .45 cal. Glock...even after obongo tries to ban it.

Joe, Most of us are not happy with the current pc attitude in this city. I see the trash and it makes me angry, I have even confronted a few people who just through bags of trash out of their window at the Allen Park Target. The miscreants forced the closing of the Dearborn Theater, most people feel they cannot go to Fairlane Mall to shop....certainly not to go to the movie. I, however, continue to go the Fairlane and just chased someone out of Macy's a few weeks ago for trying to scam me and others. I love Dearborn, I think we have a great PD, and I am not going to be chased out by bad people. We all need to fight for this city and make it so it is not a good place for the bad guys to do business. No kumbaya going on at my house!! Don't even get me started on "obongo"!

I really can't complain about the Dearborn Police. I have lived in Dea. most of my life and remember Orvie well. DPD has always been very fast to respond to any call from a blocked driveway to an accident. Sometimes they over-do it with multiple cars for a traffic stop. But, better more than none. They have a very good track record for all crime. I'm happy to live in this city. (except for the paid parking in the west end)

I work in Dearborn, and just last night had an "incident" that made me feel just a little unsafe, in light of the Broncos robbery. Not only did the Dearborn police show up in less than 5 minutes (just to talk to me and find out what happened) they also drove through our parking lot more times than I can count for the rest of the night. They are human and can only do what is humanly possible. So thank you to the Dearborn PD for making me feel protected last night.
