Charges Filed in Fatal Christmas Day Crash
Dearborn police have arrested two men believed to have been involved in a crash that left one woman dead and another in critical condition on Dec. 25.
Two men have been charged in connection with a car accident on Christmas Day that left one Dearborn woman dead and another in critical condition, Dearborn police announced Friday.
According to police, 20-year-old Dearborn resident Yaken Al-Ghathie and 17-year-old Detroit resident Saber Alghathie were arrested Feb. 2 on charges of second-degree murder and reckless driving causing death in connection with the Dec. 25, 2011, crash that resulted in the death of Eitedac Sufian Al-Gaithi and the critical injury of Amain Alammari.
The incident occurred while the involved individuals were on their way to a bridal reception at Greenfield Manor.
Investigation the evening of the crash led police to believe that a Jeep Cherokee, allegedly driven by Yaken Al-Ghathie, struck a Chevy Cobalt being driven by a 19-year-old Dearborn woman on Greenfield Road around 6:30 p.m. The driver of the Jeep lost control and struck a building, causing the two rear passengers–22-year-old Eitedac Sufian Al-Gaithi and 21-year-old Alammari–to be ejected from the vehicle.
Eitedac Sufian Al-Gaithi was pronounced dead at the hospital, while Alammari is still in critical condition.
Witnesses told police that a third vehicle was involved. It is now believed that Saber Alghathie was the driver of that vehicle.
The two men are scheduled to appear in Dearborn's 19th District Court for a preliminary exam on Friday, Feb. 17 at 9 a.m.

This is a tragic event, that should not lead to futher tradagies. Teen age drivers always get into these types of accidents, yet drunk drivers get manslaughter or less. This is absurd how the justice system is distructing the lives of the family by further causing them to hurt. The boys are family of the two victims, and police are adding two more. Isnt the loss of family enough? Why must the family go through more pain, while wounds have not even healed. I am praying for the family and the boys, who should not be in jail in the first placce. Imagine if you were the mother or father of these victims. The loss of these two boys family members is enough pain. My prayers are with them all and hopefully the justice system is fair, and understands that we are human and make mistakes. They are not killers, just victims of a tragic accident.

The drivers were racing down Greenfield close to twice the speed limit. They were knowingly driving in a way that endangered everyone on the road. Thank God they didn't kill anyone else, because they easily could have. It hurts that the one who chose this were related to the victims, but they were risking everyone's lives that day driving that way. Teenagers do not always get in street racing accidents, nor are these two drivers victims. They were not passengers along for the ride, they were the ones breaking the law with full knowledge of what they were doing. This is not the first time people have driven this way down Greenfield (I live a block away) and even after this tragedy, it wont be the last. The law needs to stand to prevent this from happening again. It sounds harsh, but I've lost family to reckless drivers and when I'm driving down Greenfield as I do 3 or more times a day, I Thank God I or my husband wasn't on the road that day with my two children because these drivers' victims could have been anyone. You want to drive that way, then get the proper consequence for your choices.

I just wanna take this time to say as humans we all make mistakes but as humans we allso learn from the mistakes we do so I take this chance to say this family did have enought heart breaking moments so just let the two brothers free because the time they had in county jail was good enought for them to know not to do this kinda stuff again more importantly losing there sister and having a second sister in critical condition from this incident is enought for the two brothers
