I'm very surprised, we were there about a week ago and they still didn't finish the first one... so are they claiming there ALL finished now?

It amazes me that Dearborn continues to operate Camp Dearborn. I cannot imagine why the City needs to own, maintain, and operate a retreat with "resort-style" cabins. Instead, the City should put effort into Downtown Dearborn, which more Dearborn residents would enjoy, than a "camp" that is 48 minutes away from my house. It should be an easy choice, now that Mayor O'Reilly and City Council have brushed aside our historic City Hall, how about we brush aside "historic" Camp Dearborn?

I've been been receiving the same info, everytime they have posted news on them they make it sound as if they completed one... I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining about it but it seems like whoever is posting the info isn't actually checking things out, but just word of mouth....

Yep, reservations are open! Camp offices just told me they've had lines of people all weekend looking to book the cabins, and there is still availability. They do open June 17. So get there quick!

I know that I could get much nicer accomodation just about anywhere in MI so NO I wouldn't pay $110.00 for something like this.

If they have lines of people looking to book the cabins and there are only 6 with full facilities, why are they not all rented yet?

Camp Dearborn is completely mismanaged and lacks any vision. It's purpose is questionable, ands it's ability to compete with other attractions for users is also highly questionable

Here is a question....and let's see if anyone knows the answer, how much did these cost when all said and done? The number is ridiculous! For only 8 cabins!?

I can't say off hand but what I read was that the city received a large grant to make CD profitable, and then they placed a bid up for the construction of the cabins... so instead of guessing what is the amount, what is it?

I didn’t read anything about a grant, but it looks like the total amount is $437,704.
In the document “Capital Improvement Plan City of Dearborn Fiscal Year 2013” it lists the following:
I21009 RUSTIC RESORT CABINS
Purchase and installation of eight (8) rustic resort cabins in Tent Village 1 (TV1). Each cabin will measure at a minimum of 12’ x 24’ (along with an 8’ porch) with windows and doors, and offer a finished interior, complete with built-in bunks, toilet and shower facilities, and limited utilities (electric & water). An outdoor cabana with refrigerator/stovetop unit, a charcoal grill and picnic table will also be provided at each of these new sites. The Charter Township of Milford Board of Trustees unanimously approved the site plan for the proposed resort cabins on February 15, 2012 (PS-11-5007). Construction is slated to begin in late spring, 2012.
Funding source – General Fund.
Contact person – Eric Peterson.
So I guess if you divide the cost by eight cabins that is $54,713 per cabin.

At the end of everything, it was almost $500,000 dollars for 8 cabins...SO the City is broke huh? $3.75 Million with another $1.8 million to remodel on the new City Hall and $13,500 to evaluate the building AFTER BUYING THE BUILDING, but we're broke....Another fun fact, what will happen if the evaulation doesn't go as planned? hmmm....

Something else to concider, The city has created a position because someone always has to attend these cabins. That said, now a new position is created in Milford(when we are laying off workers at home) and now we have to account for electricity, water, maintenance etc. Add those all up at the end of the year and tax it onto our $500,000 we have invested in these 8 cabins. BUT WE ARE BROKE! Close everything at home but build these brand new cabins, another genius act committed by the City.
