Longtime resident Lawrence F. Porte died peacefully at his Dearborn home on Saturday, July 30. He was 82.
Born in Detroit Dec. 22, 1928 to John and Rose Porte, he was a graduate of St. Vincent De Paul High School and worked for more than 43 years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
Porte is survived by his children, Susan (Richard) Hinshon, Richard (Elizabeth) Porte, Michael Porte, Patricia McGraw and Julie (Mark) Vega; his grandchildren, Said Bin Yunus, Christie McPharlin, Andrew Porte, James Porte, Erin McGraw and Carlo Vega; and his great-grandson, Finnegan McParlin. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Mary Porte.
Porte was devoted to his family and took great pride in their accomplishments. He had a strong work ethic that he passed on to his children and grandchildren, and always made a point of “taking care of business.”
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. onThursday, Aug. 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with 10 a.m. prayers at the funeral home.
