Henry Ford Community College English Instructor Adam Hazlett of Fenton, Mich., recently won an the Excellence in Teaching Award from Sigma Alpha Pi, the campus chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success. Hazlett teaches in the College’s English and World Languages Department.

He will receive this honor at Sigma Alpha Pi’s Induction Ceremony Thursday, May 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Rosenau Room in the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference Center, located on the main campus. New induction of members will also take place during this ceremony. 

“Adam has earned this honor because of his continued dedication to our students, and leadership at our College. This award from Sigma Alpha Pi is a nationally recognized achievement of honorable distinction. I would also like to personally extend my thank you to Adam for everything that he has done to make this College a great place to work and give back to the students,” said Brian N. Stewart, a Business Information Technology instructor at HFCC and NSLS advisor.

The NSLS (http://www.societyleadership.org/) is a leadership honor society and is one of the largest college leadership honor societies in the United States with hundreds of chapters. HFCC has earned recognition for six consecutive months as winners of the NSLS’ Social Media Award.

“It came out of nowhere. It surprised me,” Hazlett said, adding that an award like this, “keeps you going. It rekindles the fire if you’ve lost it. It shows that you’re making a difference in students’ lives."

Hazlett has taught at HFCC since 2004. He holds an undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts from Ohio University and a graduate degree in Language and Literature from Eastern Michigan University. He is currently working on his doctorate in Humanities and Religion and expects to graduate in 2013.
