Dearborn resident George “Red” Parker died Nov. 7 at the age of 90.
Born Nov. 22, 1920, in Amesbury, Mass. to George and Georgeana (Collopy) Parker, Parker attended Haverhill High School in Haverhill, Mass. He worked as a welder at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, N.H., and at Bath Iron Works in Maine. He retired from Federal Mogul in Detroit, where he had worked as a machine operator.
Parker is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice; his children, Alice (Kelly) Harris, George Jr. and Stephen (Betty); and his grandchildren, Leila, Leena and Leia. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave. The funeral services Friday, Nov. 11, will begin with 9:30 a.m prayers at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 22430 Michigan Ave., Dearborn.
Interment will follow at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights.
